The CoC ‘Mechatronics and Clean Technologies’ is an association of national universities and institutes comprising 12 institutes of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, the University of Sofia and the Technical University of Sofia. Bringing together leading scientists from these units into a single Centre of Excellence aimed at maximising coverage of the ISIS thematic area of Mechatronics and Clean Technologies and having a single research programme will contribute both to strengthening and intensifying research, technological development and innovation and to creating an institution that will be leading in this area for the country and the region. In particular, the activity will focus on the following areas:

  1. Virtual Engineering and Digital Manufacturing
  2. Bio-mechatronics, Micro/nano engineering for mechatronic technologies, elements and systems
  3. Vibration and acoustic mechatronic technologies
  4. Transport engineering and reengineering
  5. Optical mechatronic technologies
  6. Components of intelligent systems for mechatronic devices
  7. Clean and safe energy technologies
  8. Green technologies
  9. Additive technologies, functional coatings and new materials
  10. Robotic systems and mechatronic technologies
  11. Modeling.

In accordance with the program, modern and competitive scientific complexes of the highest level will be built, equipped with unique for the country and concentrated in certain places scientific equipment. These campuses will provide opportunities to conduct high-quality research in accordance with best standards and practices The main activities are planned to be carried out in close cooperation with the Centres of Competence in the field of mechatronics and clean technologies, as well as with the CoVEs in the field of information and communication technologies. Foreign scientific institutions will contribute to the high level of scientific activity as associated partners. For better business relations, the associated partners – representatives of the Bulgarian business/industry – will be relied upon.
